For courtrooms

Courtrooms of courts of general jurisdiction shall be equipped on the basis of the rules for the design of court buildings and logistical norms applicable to courts of different categories.

Courtroom zoning and furniture used

All courtrooms for hearing civil and criminal cases are divided by a railing fence into the court participants area (procedural area) and the visitors area.

In the part of the procedural zone farthest from the visitors, the court is elevated on a podium – a table for judges, a table for the court clerk, and a stand for the national flag.

Below the court level in the courtroom for the hearing of civil cases are placed:

• attorney’s and defendant’s tables (the parties’ tables);
• the tables of the prosecutor and the plaintiff (tables of the parties);
• the witness stand.

And in the hearing room for criminal cases:

• counsel’s table (parties’ table);
• prosecutors’ table (parties’ table);
• a rostrum for questioning;
• a protective booth with seats for the defendants;
• an escort’s seat.

Note: Jury seating must be provided for courtrooms to hear criminal cases.
